Re: Your most expensive mistake?
Not mine but Mrs N/Sold... she phoned me up to tell me she had spent £300 on a sofa... bloke knocked on the door saying he was a delivery man and had a spare sofa... she bought it.... I cam e home ... took one look at it and then dragged it outside and took a axe to it.... I reckon one spark and it would have lit up like the 4th July...

Side
As frustrating and infuriating that following West Ham can be
I would never call it a mistake, costly maybe. But looking back over the last 50 years we have had some great days/nights at the Boleyn and on the numerous away days/nights.They always seem to outweigh the bad times somehow! That is West Ham the best roller coaster ride out there.

Without thinking I would say alcohol and West ham. At 54 I should be retired and minted as my folks never took rent off me and I should have saved. Sir hindsight

Re: Your most expensive mistake?
I know, it looked the biz though, the nicest one I've ever seen. Thought it just needed a new gearbox but as I was fixing one thing something else went wrong. Did get it running really well at one point though after working out a tuning problem myself after paying for a tune up and service that didn't work.. Had to learn about car mechanics myself as it was bankrupting me, as even one spark plug cost £12.
Final straw was both door locks / handles stopped working so could only climb in through hatchback. Paid £200 to have them fixed, went to put petrol in and it was pissing out of a new hole in the tank on to the floor.

Measured concrete cladding panels to façade once off an elevation drawing (i.e. not taking into account the foot print).

Almost cost £200k.

Luckily someone spotted the error of my ways.

Bought a load of Northern Rock shares when it looked like Branson had a good offer on the table then Alistair Darling and the sociopathic Brown nationalised it and stole the bank off of the shareholders! Some big hedge funds lost a lot of dosh that day!

Re: Your most expensive mistake?
Bought a shit flat at the peak of the property boom in Nottingham and then the financial crash came soon after, sold it for 20k less six years later.

Also bought an old Porsche 924 a few years ago. Spent 4 times what I paid for it repairing it and it still needed more, hardly used it and sold it 6 months later for what I paid for it.

Phantom - Not a huge sum of money but it's a huge hassle and fucks up your holiday.

I was in Spain last year and had got off a coach in Granada, went down to the outside hold to collect my luggage, was feeling content and looking forward to getting to my hotel. I then realised my man bag was missing which contained my passport, wallet and phone. Went into a huge panic, thought it must still be inside so went back in, nope not there, went back out to the outside to look, nope not there, thought I was royally fucked. The coach driver was then getting ready to pull away so just out of desperation I went for one last look inside again and to my huge relief there it was on the seat across the aisle from where I was sitting, ob I'd put it there as I was preparing to get off and forgot about it.

Anway, back on topic, similar to Ted's tale, but sadly a shit load more than 12k
